There are a number of excellent wines from North Fork, Long Island, from the Fingerlakes area, and increasingly from the Hudson Valley area. However, the availability of local wines at retail stores in the city changes weekly, making it impossible to keep track of them for The Guide.
Below are some wineries selling via farmers markets, as well as mail order. In addition, I've listed some wine and liquor stores that consistently carry a decent selection of local wines. Ask your neighborhood wine store to carry local wines! It is ridiculous that I have sometimes found East Coast wines in San Francisco more easily than I can find them in NYC. To get an idea of what you should be able to find at your local wine store, visit Uncork New York.
